5th Edition of A Day in Allergy and Respiratory Medicine
The fifth Edition of A Day in Allergy and Respiratory Medicine was a victorious hybrid conference
held on Saturday, 29th January 2022 at the Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre,
participated with over 200 physical attendees and 800 virtual delegates.
The welcome speech by Prof. Ashraf Alzaabi, President of Emirates Thoracic Society and Chief of
Medicine at Zayed Military Hospital, UAE, provides a glimpse of what to expect from the event itself.
Exceptionally cordial, Prof. Ashraf thanked the delegates for their participation and informed them that
the session would be very interactive. He encouraged everyone to visit the sponsor’s booth.
Part of the conference activity were four workshops namely Inhaler Techniques by Dr. Manjush Karthika,
Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation by Dr. Mohamed Al-Houqani, Spirometry by Zarina Akramyar,
and Allergic Skin Testing by Mr. Mohammed Shash.

a very comprehensive lecture on Inhaler Techniques: How To Avoid Critical Errors While Using Inhaler
Therapy In Respiratory Diseases?
Prof. Jeffrey Chapman, Institute Chair, Respiratory Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, UAE, has
presented his topic on Post COVID Interstitial Lung Disease Syndrome: Diagnosis and Management.
Dr. Mohamed Al-Houqani, President of Sleep Disordered Breathing Group at Emirates Thoracic Society
has discussed a lecture called Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Continuous Positive Airway
pressure (CPAP) Versus Other Treatment Modalities.
On session two, Prof. Sean Gaine, Consultant Respiratory Physician at Mater Misericordiae University
Hospital Dublin, Ireland gave a very illuminating reviews related to Pulmonary Hypertension Diagnosis
And Management.
Prof. Dr. Tobias Welte, Pulmonary Medicine and Director at Hannover University School of Medicine,
Hannover, Germany, on the other hand, has discussed Forecasting the Epidemiological Trends of
COVID-19 Prevalence and Mortality & the Importance of Vaccinations in Adults.
Prof. Kenneth R. Chapman, Clinician Investigator, Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (TGHRI)
at University of Toronto, Canada has shared his medical analysis on Treatment of Mild/Moderate Asthma
: ICS/LABA Maintenance And Reliever Therapy Approach Versus Maintenance Treatment Plus
Short-acting Beta-agonist (SABA) As A Rescue?.
And to conclude the conference, Prof. Brian Ward, Professor – Department of Medicine, Division of
Experimental Medicine at McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Canada has delivered an in-depth
scientific review on the Role of Monoclonal Antibodies as a Prophylaxis from COVID-19.
