FAMILY MEDICINE CONFERENCE

The Conference aims to promote better health by enhancing Family Medicine concepts including health promotions, prevention, and curative programs. The three days conference contributes to excellence in Family Medicine, General Practice, and Primary Care.

Family medicine is an essential part of the primary care infrastructure of the health care system. Family medicine clinical experiences help to understand how it influences the diagnostic process and management decisions.

In 2010 I have joined McGill university in Montreal, Canada, and had extensive work experience with pioneers in neurology and epilepsy. I have successfully completed my neurology residency, and followed by Epilepsy fellowship, with special interest in Magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology in Montreal Neurological institute and hospital, and other affiliated hospitals. Currently I am a consultant Neurologist at Tawam hospital and in my first year after returning from Canada I have upgraded the EEG service to a full digital network. First in Tawam hospital to use Ictal and interictal SPECT for frontal lobe seizure patient.

My clinical interest equals my interest to education and training the new generation of physicians, being involved in final year medial education teaching when I was in Canada and currently in UAE. I have presented multiple talks in conferences and annul meetings, in topics including; headache and epilepsy, super refractory status epilepticus, neurological complication of bariatric surgery. In-addition I have run an EEG (electroencephalogram) workshop in the first AbuDhabi brain conference Sept 2021. She is French board certified, Worked during 5 years in different university hospitals in Paris, followed by 2 years in Quinze Vinghts hospital – The second biggest eye center in Europe. She was apart from research team in ocular surfaces and glaucoma disease in Institute du vision in Paris. She has given many lectures in National and International Congress. She also obtained four University Diplomas such as: DU in Glaucoma 2015; DIU in Retinal Imaging and Pathology 2014; DIU of Neuropthalmology 2012-2013; DIU Ocular Inflammation and infection 2009-2010.

In relation to her field, she has the eagerness to learn and interested more particularly in Ocular Imaging. Dr. Meshal Sultan is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Al Jalila Children’s and an Assistant Professor at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), Dubai, UAE. He is the Vice President of the Emirates Society for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

Dr. Sultan obtained his medical degree from UAE University in 2007. He completed his psychiatry residency training as well as child and adolescent psychiatry subspecialty fellowship at the University of Ottawa. He has obtained certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry as well as in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is an International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He has extensive expertise in outpatient, inpatient, consultation-liaison, emergency, school mental health, and tele-psychiatry.

Dr. Sultan has published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented in international conferences on several topics including attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), collaborative care, and mindfulness.

Dr. Sultan is very interested in teaching. He has given seminars and provided clinical supervision to medical students at University of Ottawa. He currently teaches at the Introduction of the Practice of Medicine Course, as well as Mind and Behaviour Module at MBRU. He has given lectures to parents on various topics including anxiety disorders as well as autism spectrum disorder. He has also co-authored information sheets, available at eMentalHealth.ca.

Dr. Sultan has been actively involved in leadership roles. He is currently the Clinical Lead of the Mental Health Intake Program. He served as the General Secretary of the Emirates Society for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, after being elected in 2018. He then was elected for the position of the Vice President of the society in 2021. He was appointed as the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at Al Jalila Children’s from 2019 to 2022.

He is the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee of the 25th World Congress of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) taking place in Dubai, from December 5 to 9, 2022.

He has actively participated in establishing the first Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program in the UAE, which started in 2019. He currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Fellowship Programme. In 2022, Dr. Sultan was elected as the Inaugural Chair of the Scientific Committee for the Specialty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the National Institute for Health Specialties (NIHS), United Arab Emirates.

His experience of working in different teams and locations has polished his skills and clinical acumen in the form of engagement work, system-based approach to young people and families, multiagency working, and use of broader scientific explanation/approaches in mental disorders in young people along with the balanced use of psychopharmacology.

Dr Omer has strived to deliver young person-centred and family-friendly service for various conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Eating problems, etc. This involves identifying and treating co-morbid conditions for young people with substance misuse. Dr. Graham is the Chief Medical Officer at Mount Carmel Mount Carmel St. Ann’s in Westerville, Ohio and Mount Carmel New Albany in New Albany, Ohio. He is the former Program Director for the Mount Carmel Family Medicine Residency Program and the former Family Medicine Department Chair at Mount Carmel St. Ann's. He completed a Master of Health Professions Education at University of Illinois at Chicago and has interests in curriculum design, resident competency assessment, feedback and leadership development. Dr. Watfa is a graduate of the UAE University in 2005.
She has joined the pediatric residency training at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) from July 2008-June 2012. She is double board certified in general pediatrics (American Board of Pediatrics and Royal College of physicians and surgeons of Canada).
She has completed a pediatric nephrology training at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) from July 2012-June 2014.
She also completed an Academic Pediatric Nephrology training at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) from July 2014-June 2015 with a main focus on Kidney Genetics. During the same year, She obtained a training certificate in Global Clinical Scholars Research Training program from Harvard University. I was awarded a Commendation for the capstone project submitted during the program. She worked as a consultant pediatric nephrologist in August 2015 in Al Ain Hospita and established general pediatric nephrology service at Al Ain Hospital. She moved to Tawam Hospital in November 2016 and worked as a consultant pediatric nephrologist. She has established the Pediatric Hemodialysis unit and Peritoneal dialysis services in Tawam Hospital. She has been actively involved in the pediatric academic residency training and been a core faculty during my service at Tawam Hospital. She is currently working at SKMC as consultant pediatric nephrologist since November 2022. She has few publications related to general pediatric and pediatric nephrology. She had participated actively in local, national and international meetings as a speaker and moderator.
