Dr. Giles Berrisford is a senior consultant psychiatrist from the United Kingdom. He has been working as the National Specialty Advisor for Perinatal Mental Health to NHS England and the UK Government for the last 8 years. During this time, he has clinically led the expansion of maternal mental health services across England, opening 4 new inpatient Mother and Baby Units and developing over 50 specialized community maternal mental health teams; ensuring that all parts of England now have access to these specialized multi-disciplinary teams.

Clinically, he has worked in community and inpatient settings, working with a large number of women and families affected by perinatal mental illness over the last 20 years. He is now working with Maudsley Health and is collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatry, psychology, perinatal mental health nursing and experts with lived experience of maternal mental illness to establish community and inpatient maternal mental health services across the UAE.

Dr. Giles is currently the Chair of the British charity – Action on Postpartum Psychosis (www.app-network.org ), an elected member of the Perinatal Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK; an elected member of the executive board of the International Marce Society – the international society for perinatal mental health clinicians and a founding member of the Maternal Mental Health Section for the Emirates Society for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
