It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the “New Horizons in Radiation Therapy: Particle Beam Therapy” Symposium, taking place on June 21, 2025, at the Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi.
This symposium is a collaborative effort between the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI)- Abu Dhabi office and our esteemed partners in the United Arab Emirates, designed to foster academic exchange and clinical collaboration in the rapidly evolving field of radiation oncology. Our program brings together distinguished experts from Korea and the UAE to share the latest advances in radiotherapy, with a special focus on the transformative potential of particle beam therapies such as proton and carbon ion therapy.
We are confident that this symposium will serve as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and the exploration of practical cooperation between our countries. By working together, we can advance the standards of cancer care and contribute to improved outcomes for patients across the region.
Thank you for joining us at this important event. I look forward to a day of insightful discussions and meaningful collaboration.
It is great honor for me to participate today’s event for the collaboration in health care between UAE and Republic of Korea.
The collaboration between UAE and republic of Korea in medical services started in 2011 with the agreement between South Korea and The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi regarding official referral and transfer of patients.
Demand for Korean expertise in healthcare is also strong in the UAE, with hundreds of doctors, nurses, and professionals from Korea working in a number of hospitals and clinics across the UAE. In particular, Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH), which is Korea’s most prestigious hospital, officially signed an agreement in 2014 that was renewed in 2019 and 2024 as the operator and manager of Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital (SKSH) in Ras Al Khaimah, a leading tertiary medical hub in the Northern Emirates.
As a member of oncology center, Department of Radiation Oncology, Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital (SKSH) in Ras Al Khaimah has been providing the outstanding radiotherapy service with high end machines and techniques as the pioneer of MR-guidance radiotherapy and surface guidance radiotherapy.
As a big pillar of oncology care, the role of radiotherapy has been increasing with the remarkable development of radiotherapy techniques and diversity of radiotherapy including particle beam radiotherapy.
Republic of Korea has enormous experiences of particle beam radiotherapy including proton and carbon.
Now, UAE is opening the door to the particle beam radiotherapy for the better care of cancer patients.
The collaboration between the radiation oncology society between UAE and South Korea would be essential at this stage and it helps to improve the outcomes and quality of life for oncology patients in UAE.
I believe today’s event would be the first and big step for the collaboration.

Session 3: Carbon Ion Therapy
This symposium is organized to promote academic exchange and clinical collaboration between Korea and the UAE in the field of radiation oncology.
The program focuses particularly on the latest particle therapy technologies, including proton and carbon ion therapy.
By sharing Korea’s advanced clinical experience and treatment technologies, the symposium aims to enhance understanding among medical professionals in the Middle East and explore opportunities for practical cooperation between the two countries.
