Dr. Burcu Celet Ozden

Dr. Celet Ozden was born in Istanbul in 1975. She finished her undergrad education and plastic surgery residency in Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty where she remained as faculty and has since worked as an attending. At 2017, she set up Istanbul Breast Clinic where she established a specialized breast plastic surgery practice. She has a genuine interest in breast and chestwall reconstruction and has been working with several mutidisciplinary breast care teams. She carries an active role in the treatment planning and reconstructive procedures as well as aesthetic and reconstructive revisions in these high turnover referral centers. Her research interest has focused on two staged breast reconstruction and radiotherapy compatibility as well as implant sizing and prepectoral breast reconstruction. Her experimental research project on expander volumes and radiotherapy received the national best paper award in 2013. As a pioneer in immediate direct to implant and muscle sparing prepectoral breast reconstruction, she is invited as speaker in many national and international breast meetings.

Dr. Ghada Al Jadba

Ghada Al Jadba is a Chief Field Health Programme in UNRWA Gaza field since the first of April 2015, she is Palestinian, was born in Gaza on 15 July 1968. She is leading a HP in Gaza which provides basic and lifesaving health services to about 1.3 Million Palestine refugees who are equivalent to more than 75% of the total population in Gaza. Responsible to meet all of the basic health needs of the served population in terms of Primary health care services covering lifesaving health services targeting women, children and other patients with chronic diseases and current illnesses in very challenging situation. Also managing secondary medical services as a sub programme. This is in addition to manage the health situation of the served population during emergency times. Ghada has led the Health Programme in UNRWA Gaza Field in a very challenging situation all over the last four years, trying to improve the health services and support the health and quality of life of Palestine refugees in Gaza especially the vulnerable ones like women in reproductive age and children. There have been different reforms which have been led and supported by her like family health team approach and introducing electronic system at all of the health facilities in Gaza which support modernization of the services and ensure having comprehensive, holistic and life cycle approach. Despite of all of the challenges in Gaza and deterioration of all of the health determinants, the HP led by her continues to achieve and protect the peoples’ lives among the Palestine refugee communities, decreasing maternal deaths was one of the main achievements which dropped from 9 to 11 cases up to two cases in the previous two years. In addition to improve the services provided to patients with non-communicable diseases with screening of about 100,000 patients coming to UNRWA health centers and detect about 8,000 patients, so early detection and try to save their lives from two common silent killers, both Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension. She has worked to address the gaps in Health needs in Gaza, like mental health issues with successful integration of Mental health and Psychosocial support in all of the 22 health centers in Gaza with intensive training to all of the health staff in order to be equipped well to deal with the dramatic increase of mental health and psychosocial problems in Gaza. Also having wide campaigns to encourage breast cancer screening and doing breast cancer screening to support and save the lives of vulnerable women especially in the blockaded Gaza. Addressing the adolescent health and fighting early marriage by widespread campaigns in all of the health centers. Ghada has worked in UNRWA Gaza Field facing tough emergency situations like in 2014 war on Gaza, managing the health centers as area health officer at that time. As Chief Health Programme managed the huge impact on health due to the emergency situation in Gaza following the Great March of Return since March 2018, with a lot of health and humanitarian needs which were met by UNRWA Health Programme in terms of provision of postoperative medical care to the injured persons and psychosocial support to them and their families and physical rehabilitation. In addition to responding to repeated events of military escalations in Gaza. Education: Master in Public Health from Al Quds University, in 2006 Bachelor degree in Medicine and general surgery from Al Fateh University/ Tripoli/ Libya, 1995.

Dr. Azim is a Professor of Clinical Oncology and past chairman of the of Oncology Department ,Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. He also chairs “Kasr Al Ainy School Of Oncology ” KASO "" the official oncology education society at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. Dr Azim serves as the founding president of Africa and Middle East Cancer Intergroup “AMCI”, which is the first cancer research organization in the region . In addition, he chaired the steering committee of the NCCN Middle East chapter ( 2008-2014) Dr Azim was the founder and the first president (2006-2010) of the Egyptian Hemato-oncology Group (EHOG), he still serves as a member of the steering committee of the group Dr Azim is the current president of the Cairo Oncology Center, one of the largest ESMO-accredited Private Cancer centers in the Middle East region. Training • Dr. Azim earned his MSc and MD degrees in clinical oncology from Cairo University. He had postdoctoral fellowships at the National Cancer Institute (Milan, Italy,1987); Medical Oncology Department, Institute Curie (Paris, 1989); Medical Oncology Department, Aviano Cancer Center (Aviano, Italy, 1990); and the Department of Adult Lymphoma and Bone Marrow Transplant, Hôpital Saint-Louis (Paris, 1996). International scientific and educational activities Dr Azim is a member of numerous societies, including the ASCO, ASH, ESMO, and the European Blood and Marrow Transplantation Society. Dr Azim was the first to represent the Middle East countries on the ASCO international committee, for a period of 5 years ( May 1997-May 2002) He has been the principal investigator for many multicenter and international clinical trials His main interests lie in breast cancer, Lymphoma , liver & kidney cancers , and Immunotherapy ; where he has published more than 80 papers and he was the chief editor of 2 educational books ( ASCO – PANARAB Lymphoma Conference (1999) and the MD Anderson Cancer Centre / Cairo University joint meeting (2006). Dr Azim serves as a referee for the Annals of Oncology Journal, THE BREAST , BMC Cancer, Clinical Breast Cancer, Chemotherapy journal , Advances in Cancer Research & Treatment , Journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute, and the Chinese Clinical Oncology Journal Dr Azim also serves as an editorial board member of The Breast Journal (TBJ) Dr. Azim sits on several scientific and steering committees and has been invited as an international speaker in more than 400 regional and international conferences in all the Pan-Arab counties, Russia , India, Singapore ,Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand , Azerbaijan, Iran, Cyprus, France, Spain, Austria, Germany , Switzerland, Turkey, South Africa and US (including major world-wide conferences like International bone marrow transplantation (Denver), international congress on anti-cancer treatment-Paris (ICACT ), San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, and Global Breast Cancer Conference (Seoul ). Moreover, Dr. Azim currently serves as a member of breast cancer medical oncology core faculty in the European School Of Oncology (ESO) . He also has served as a speaker for the ASCO online educational programme. Awards He has been honoured with several awards including Scientist of the Year from the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, UK (2002), the Order of Merit,Cambridge University (2002), the Best Arab Oncologist from the Lebanese Society of Medical Oncology (LSMO,2004) , The Recognition Award For Significant Contribution To The Oncology Field In The Middle East, from UAE (Dubai -2013), and The Research Award from The Arab Medical Association Against Cancer ( 2019) , in addition to several awards from many Egyptian cancer centers and societies. In 1995 till 2000 he worked as an assistant Professor of Surgery & Surgical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, and Jordan University. Mahmoud El-Tamer, MD is trained as a breast surgeon with 25 years of experience caring for patients with breast cancer, and works collaboratively with other breast cancer specialists on Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s multidisciplinary breast cancer disease management team. Dr. El-Tamer received his MD from the American University of Beirut in 1981. He completed his residency at the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 1985, followed by four years of surgical oncology and reconstructive surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. After his training, Dr. El-Tamer became interested in joining these two disciplines to provide improved care to breast cancer patients, and has developed a special expertise in this growing field of oncoplastic surgery. Dr. El-Tamer’s research interests have covered different aspects of breast cancer and quality of care in surgery. He has been the principal or co-principal investigator on research grants from the Avon Breast Cancer Foundation, the United States Veterans’ Administration and the American College of Surgeons. His current research interests are focused on tumor micro-environment post mastectomy radiation in 1–3 positive nodes and breast conservation. Dr. El-Tamer has published “Principals & Techniques in Oncoplastic Breast Cancer Surgery”, a textbook to help other surgeons enhance cosmetic results while performing surgery to treat breast cancer. He is currently collaborating with international oncoplastic surgeons to publish a second edition. Dr. El-Tamer holds the patent to a new agent for sentinel node detection.

Yasser Abu-Jamei, a Palestinian Psychiatrist who obtained in 2012 MSc in Clinical Neuropsychiatry (with distinction) from Birmingham. In 2015 he received the award of best Alumnus achievement from the Said Foundation on his work in developing mental health sector in Gaza and the GCMHP crisis response plan after the 2014 war on Gaza. He also received the Alumnus of the year award from the University of Birmingham in 2016 and the Community Resilience Award from Rebuilding Alliance 2021. Dr Abu-Jamei is a member of the Task Force which developed the National Mental Health Strategy 2015-2019 in Palestine. In 2020, with a group of Palestinian mental health professionals he cofounded the Palestine Global Mental Health Network. He has large Interest in Capacity building programmes, neuropsychiatry, and advocacy and lobbying activities. He is certified as a Trainer of Trainers in the field of supervision and care for caregivers from the Free University of Berlin. Since January 2014, Dr Abu Jamei is the director general of Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, a leading mental health services provider in Palestine. He recently coauthored few papers that looks into integrating public health and human rights approach into mental health in the Gazan context.

Dr. Hassan Jaafar is a consultant medical oncologist with more than 25 years of professional experience. He commenced his career in Internal Medicine in 1994 and ultimately qualified in oncology/hematology in the year 2000 from the American University of Beirut Medical Centre. Later that year, Dr. Jaafar relocated to the UAE and joined Tawam Hospital, a 500+ bed, tertiary-care hospital, affiliated with the reputed Johns Hopkins University Hospital in the USA. During that time, he served as an adjunct Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine and Health – UAEU. He later relocated to Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital (SKSH) operated by Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) in Ras-Al-Khaimah. With his arrival at BCI as a Consultant Medical Oncologist, Dr. Jaafar moves up yet another notch in his career to be rated as one of the frontline oncologists and cancer research specialists in the UAE region. Dr. Abu-Gheida is the clinical director of the department of radiation oncology at Burjeel Medical City. Dr. Abu-Gheida is also the chairman of the first Emirates Oncology Society Radiation Oncology Work group formulated in 2023. He also serves as a regional Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) committee representative for the Middle East and Africa. Dr. Abu-Gheida completed his undergraduate training where he earned a Bachelor of Science with honors degree from the American University of Beirut. Following this, Dr. Abu-Gheida completed his Medical School training at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. He continued and joined the Department of Internal Medicine at the American University of Beirut. Then did his training in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, where he also served as the chief resident. During his Training, Dr. Abu-Gheida completed a Harvard-affiliated NIH-funded research program as well. After his residency, Dr. Ibrahim went to Cleveland Clinic / in Ohio, where he was appointed as an Advanced Clinical Radiation Oncology Fellow. Dr. Abu-Gheida went and joined the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center where he sub-specialized in treating Breast, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers. Dr. Abu Gheida played an instrumental role in establishing and heading the radiation oncology facility and department at Burjeel medical city. He has chaired and co-chaired multiple international oncology conferences. Mehra Golshan, MD, MBA, is a cancer surgeon and a nationally and internationally recognized leader in breast cancer treatment and research. In addition to caring for patients, he serves as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. Dr. Golshan also serves as the Executive Vice Chair of Operations in the Department of Surgery and Professor of Surgical Oncology at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Golshan is a leader in the research with over 150 peer reviewed publications. He has led numerous Phase I, II and III clinical trials and translational science innovations impacting the treatment options and outcomes for women. He is an innovator in tailoring surgery and therapy for women with early stage breast cancer with funding support from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and National Institutes of Health. He is the principal investigator of several phase II trials aiming to reduce the need for second surgeries or re-excisions in women with breast cancer, one of which uses innovative image-guided operating room capabilities to capture and remove all residual tumor utilizing MRI and mass spectrometry which is used at Yale’s hybrid operating room. Dr. Golshan prides himself on being an educator having trained and mentored over a hundred breast surgical fellows as well as international surgeons. He has lectured and taught surgeons, trainees and students nationally and internationally in the field of oncology and breast cancer treatment. Dr. Golshan is a Board Member of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), Chair of NAPBC Education Committee, Chair of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Interprofessional Education and Practice, and Chair of the American Society of Breast Surgeons Question of the Week Committee. Dr. Golshan completed his fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He earned his Medical Degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and an MBA at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management in Cambridge Massachusetts. Prior to joining Yale, he spent 17 years in Boston at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute where he was the inaugural and incumbent Dr. Abdul Mohsen and Sultana Al-Tuwaijri Distinguished Chair in Surgical Oncology. Mahmoud was leading the Oncology Nursing services at Tawam Hospital from 2004 -April 2023 and he was the Executive Sponsor and the chair of SEHA Oncology Nursing advisory group since 2016 till April 2023. He led all the preparation for all the annual nursing sessions in the Emirates Oncology Conference from 2013 till today. He participated in a lot of activities to improve patient quality of care such as introducing the new appointment system in the oncology Clinic at Tawam Hospital (2010), introducing the new Medical Assessment & Planning Unit (MAPU) in 2017, End of life Outreach Nurse project (2017), Discharge project (2017-2018), Oncology Nurse Navigator program (2017), Oncology Nurse Triage project (2018) and shifting chemotherapy from Inpatient to outpatient setting (2020). Mahmoud led the nursing workforce and nursing productivity at Burjeel Holding since June 2023.
