Prof. Suhail Alrukn is a leading neurologist and stroke specialist renowned for his contributions to stroke care and awareness across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. As Director of the Stroke Program at Rashid Hospital and a faculty member at Dubai Medical College, he has dedicated his career to improving acute stroke management, prevention, and education. Prof. Alrukn is the founder of MENA Stroke, the region’s largest stroke organization, which has advanced stroke research, care, and public awareness under his leadership. He also co-founded the global Angels Initiative, which strengthens stroke systems of care worldwide. His efforts have earned numerous awards, including the 2022 Ron Haddock International Impact Award from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Through his leadership and advocacy, Prof. Alrukn continues to shape the future of stroke care regionally and globally, improving outcomes for patients everywhere.

Dr. Usama Mohammad Hassan Albastaki, born in the United Arab Emirates, is a distinguished radiologist with over 20 years of experience. As the Chair of Medical Imaging at Dubai Health, he has led the Radiology Department at Rashid Hospital since 2014, earning the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Award for Best Public Sector Medical Department in 2020. His leadership drove the department to secure international accreditation from the American College of Radiology, a testament to its advanced technology and skilled team. A Clinical Associate Professor of Radiology at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), Dr. Albastaki is passionate about training future radiologists. He holds a Swedish Board in Diagnostic Radiology (2009) from Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, and dedicated n cardiac MRI from Royal Brompton Hospital, London. His research, including AI integration in national screening programs, has resulted in numerous publications, such as a chapter in Essentials of Charcot Neuropathy (Elsevier). As General Secretary of the Radiology Society of the Emirates (RSE) since 2021, and former President (2018–2021), he has elevated the UAE’s global radiology presence through world-class conferences. Dr. Albastaki serves as a medical expert for the UAE mission to UNSCEAR in Vienna and chaired the medical application group at the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR). Residing in Dubai, he continues to advance patient-centered radiology and innovation.

Dr. Quateen developed his expertise in interventional Neuroradiology throughout his career, which spans more than 16 years. Dr. Quateen is well-trained in the subspecialties of interventional neuroradiology and interventional vascular radiology. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological conditions and the use of clinical imaging to conduct vascular procedures. Dr. Quateen is also a keen educator and has published several research papers. Dr. Quateen is Canadian Board Certified Diagnostic radiologist. Dr. Quateen is also a fellow of the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He also holds three fellowships in interventional vascular radiology, interventional neuroradiology, and neuroradiology. Dr. Quateen served as an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University and the University of Ottawa in Canada before joining our ranks at SSMC, Abu Dhabi in UAE.

Dr. Jamal Aldeen Alkoteesh is a pioneering interventional radiologist (IR), the Chief of Interventional Radiology and Medical Director of SEHA Radiology, and IR Consultant at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi. With over 25 years of experience, he is widely regarded as the “Godfather of Interventional Radiology” in Abu Dhabi, having established the UAE’s first interventional radiology services in 2007. Dr. Alkoteesh has performed over 75,000 procedures, introducing advanced techniques such as TIPS, acute stroke interventions, prostate artery embolisation, and thermal ablation for thyroid tumours. He recently introduced new state-of-the-art IR procedures in thermal ablation and arterial embolization. He is also a professor at UAE University, shaping the next generation of radiologists.

Dr. Seby John, MBBS, is a Staff Physician within the Neurology Department of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Neurological Institute. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in 2018, Dr. John was a Consultant in Neurology and Neurointerventional Surgery at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, where he successfully developed the first stroke and neurointerventional program. Dr. John completed his medical school at the acclaimed St. John's Medical College. Subsequently, he completed extensive training in Neurology and Vascular Neurology at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio. He then underwent additional training in Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology, also at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. John is board-certified by the American Board of Neuology and the American Board of Psychiarty. Dr. John has extensive experience in the medical and interventional management of cerebrovascular diseases. He is an active researcher and has been an investigator in numerous international cerebrovascular clinical trials. He has to his credit, more than fifty peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in the field of stroke and neurointerventional surgery. He has also co-edited the third edition of "Ultimate Review for the Neurology Boards

Dr. Syed Irteza Hussain, MD, is Division Chair of Neurology, within Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Neurological Institute. Dr. Hussain is a Consultant Neurologist with seventeen years of experience. After completing his medical degree from the prestigious Aga Khan University he underwent extensive postgraduate training in the US. He is American Board certified in Neurology, Vascular neurology, Neurocritical Care and Neuroendovascular surgery. Upon completion of his postgraduate training, he joined Michigan State University as an Assistant Professor in 2009, where he helped establish a 24/7 neurointerventional surgery service and fellowship training program. In addition to his procedures, Dr. Hussain had an integral role in the management of acute stroke and critically ill neurological patients in the hospital. Subsequently, in 2011 he assumed the Medical Directorship of the Stroke Program at Michigan State University and its affiliate Sparrow Health system. In this administrative role, he supervised multiple successful joint commission recertifications of the primary stroke center and subsequently became the first in Michigan to become a JC certified comprehensive stroke center. Recognizing his services, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014 and awarded the Physician Leader of the Year award in 2015 by his institutions. Dr. Hussain lives in Abu Dhabi with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys traveling with his family, listening to music and football.

Dr. Nader Sourour is a Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) at Al Qassimi Hospital, Emirates Health Services, Sharjah, UAE. He studied medicine at Ain Shams University and traveled to France in 1988 to specialize in Interventional Radiology, focusing on the nervous system for the treatment of thrombocytopenia and brain deformities. He previously served as a Consultant of INR at Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France.

Dr. Tiago Moreira (Lisbon, Portugal, 1975) is currently Head of Stroke Service at the Neuroscience Department of SEHA – STMC Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Mohammed Medical City, Al Ain, UAE. He is Associate Professor of Neurology and former Head of Section of Neurology at the Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. He graduated from the Medical Faculty at the University of Lisbon in 1999 and completed a PhD in Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institutet in 2006. As a neurology resident, he received advanced training in cerebrovascular diseases at the Lausanne University Hospital CHUV, Switzerland. He is also Research Executive at the SITS International Stroke Registry.
