Most Common Health Problems During Old Age

We all dread it but old age is like an ugly truth. We all think that we will live a long life but we do not want to come to terms with old age. With age the cells and tissues in our bodies degenerate. They lose the power to multiply and revive. Hence with aging we face a lot of physical ailments. These may include hearing impairment, weakening vision, arthritis, hypertension, heart diseases, diabetics, and osteoporosis.

The Most Common Old Age Problems are:

Arthritis:

This is the #1 condition that most people above 65 have to deal with. Arthritis becomes an impediment in keeping an active life. Running and going to the gym might not be advisable with arthritis. With decreased activity in our lives it becomes obvious that other problems are not far behind.

Osteoporosis:

This is the worst thing that can happen to your bones. Bones become brittle and hence they are more prone to fractures even with a slight pressure or force. Your life is potentially disabled should you fall prey to it.

Obesity:

Obesity is very dangerous as it may lead to cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, gall bladder diseases, and breast and colon cancer. Women tend to accumulate fat at the time of menopause. And it is a normal physiological process that our bodies’ metabolic system gets slower with increase in age.

Vision loss:

Age related eye diseases are macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. Food rich in anti-oxidants may be helpful to a certain extent but vision loss to glaucoma cannot be restored. Hence it is very important to have regular eye exams.

Diabetes:

The most common metabolic disease which comes free with old age is diabetes. The body doesn’t produce or respond to insulin to fight high blood sugar. Again diabetes is incurable but can be controlled.

The physical condition in old age depends upon a few factors, like hereditary, lifestyle, and environment. The sins of the past makes the old age very difficult. Faulty diet, inadequate rest, over work, addictions, and stress in our youth apparently makes us age a little faster. We should hold the reins when there is still time. Old age might be dreary but it is a fact of life.
